I read in a book over the summer, I can’t remember which one, but I was reading that the theme of veiled identity runs through all great stories. The heroines and heroes capture our heart because we see long before they do, their hidden beauty, courage and greatness. We were created in love for love, but the second we set foot in this broken world, we are filled with doubts about whether we are enough, if we are really worth it. In the midst of doubt and the world breathing expectations down our backs, we are set up for failure. We lose that shimmering self we were created to be. Everything in the world is telling us that we are not enough, not pretty enough, not strong enough, not thin enough, not smart enough, always found lacking. There will always be something more we need, something to improve, something to prove. We will never be enough in the world’s eyes. In the process of living in a broken world, our real selves, our shimmering selves become so veiled and buried that our beauty courage and greatness are hidden away and we are no longer living out the story and the glory we were meant for.
I love that line about heroes capturing our hearts once we realize there hidden beauty, courage and greatness; they become worth it. They become worth fighting for. When we really realize that we all have hidden greatness, that we are all heroes and heroines, we are all worth fighting for, we are all worth it…when we realize this people will change. This world will change. Hearts will be softened. We will have eyes to see the greatness in every soul, the worth in every passing stranger on the sidewalk. We’ll see it in the hands of the beggar, in the feet of the cripple, in the tears of the lost.
we were all meant for so much more.
we were all meant for amazing things.
